Seventy pairs of eclipse viewing glasses sold at the MO State University bookstore may not be safe for looking at the sun.
The bookstore learned this week that the glasses had been recalled by Amazon because it was unable to confirm they were from a “reputable manufacturer.” The glasses sold at the MSU bookstore in the last two weeks were part of the recall.
Anyone who purchased solar eclipse glasses from the store should return them to receive a refund .
Glasses should include a CE certification number or a label with ISO 12312-2 and a logo for the International Organization for Standardization. However, some vendors have reportedly included these without meeting safety standards.
According to MSU, the American Astronomical Society has created a list of Reputable Vendors of Solar Filters and Viewers.

Viewing the eclipse at MSU:
Missouri State’s College of Natural and Applied Sciences is hosting a viewing event at Plaster Stadium.
The first 11,000 people will receive free solar glasses to watch the eclipse safely. The glasses are from a reputable manufacturer and have the proper CE certification.
Parking for the event is at Hammons Field, and a shuttle will transport people to Plaster Stadium.
